About this property

Craft Cottage is an attractive end of terrace period residence which is located right in the heart of the highly desirable village of Beer. The property is conveniently placed for all that the village has to offer, as well as being within a short walk of the beach and Beer’s stunning cove situated on the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. Craft Cottage is currently successfully let on a holiday basis and provides an excellent income, however, would equally make an ideal main residence or the perfect second home/bolt hole on the coast. It is prominently placed and is a house that is much admired by passers-by with its tall flint and Beerstone elevations and small pane windows nestled under a slated roof. Dating, we believe, from the mid-1800s, Craft Cottage has been a large part of the village’s social history and was a lace makers cottage before becoming a craft shop until the latter part of the 20th century.

The property has been under the current owner’s stewardship for over 20 years and during this time has been the subject of a significant and continual programme of refurbishment and improvement resulting in the very well-presented home of great character we find today. Worthy of particular mention is the cosy sitting room which features a superb inglenook fireplace with Beerstone jambs, an inset gas burner and exposed stone walls. The principal and guest bedrooms are also worthy of note and these are both very spacious rooms with two windows with attractive views down the village street. Further improvements (within the last seven or so years) have included replacing the front windows in hardwood, re-slating the roof and renewing the flat roof and adding shutters to many of the windows.

OUTSIDE.
Craft Cottage benefits from a terraced rear garden where there is a paved seating area, small area with artificial grass and a summerhouse. There is a pedestrian access through to the rear garden which the neighbouring properties also enjoy a right of way.

SITUATION.
Beer is a typical example of an unspoilt Devon fishing village and has a variety of shopping and recreational amenities such as restaurants, public houses, post office, galleries, primary school and sailing club. Glorious country and coastal walks emanate from the doorstep over a myriad of footpaths which include the South West Coastal Path from which there are stunning views over this dramatic stretch of coastline. The Regency town of Sidmouth lies some 8 miles to the west and is one of East Devon's premier coastal resorts with beautiful parks and an excellent variety of independent shops, along with a cinema, theatre and range of sporting facilities. The market town of Axminster is about 9 miles away and has a main line rail link to London Waterloo, and the Cathedral City of Exeter is approx. 23 miles distant with excellent shopping facilities, express rail link to London Paddington, international airport and M5 access.

DIRECTIONS.
Craft Cottage is situated at the top of Fore Street on the village ‘square’.
